Dear Cycling World and Cat 3 Racers of America,

This is step one, stage one, in building a fully functional, fully useful, completely illuminating, totally inspired cat34lyf survey. This survey will serve as our lodestone. It will be a living document and timeless testament to who we are, and what we’re about. It will help the world, our partners, our friends, our family, and each other better understand our motivations, dreams, modus operandi, raison d’etre. And from it we will make some pretty entertaining infographics.

Please know that we’ve wanted to do this FOREVER. We’ve been talking about it forever. In fact at one point I had a fairly in-depth email exchange with someone about this. Hey dude, if you’re reading this and saying to yourself, that was me, it was me, please email me immediately because we should talk. Also I apologize for losing or misplacing our email exchange. I remember really enjoying it.

Step one is just a seed. We need your help to make this seed a full grown redwood of a survey. Step one is a call to action. Step one of step one is to read the first brainstorm/rough draft or our proposed cat34lyf survey, published below.

We know it’s incomplete! That’s why we’re having this conversation. Step two of step one is for you to SEND US YOUR FEEDBACK. What’s working, what’s not? How do we make this survey better—in terms of content and questions—in terms of how we ask and frame the questions in order to get the most accurate and effective responses—in all of the terms! Keep in mind, cat34lyf is as much a state of mind as an actual status; some cat34lyfers are actually Cat 4 or 2 or even 1. Help us reinforce the stereotypes and clichés! Or not! Help us bust the myths and misconceptions! Help us learn the truth about ourselves. This is good for you. It’s therapy. It’s doing the work. It’s macro gaining!

This is us brainstorming, rough drafting, exploring. We want your feedback to design/refine/improve what we’ve come up with so far. So please read below, come up with some things you would add, subtract, edit, whatever. And let us know.

Text us, email us ([email protected]), DM us, comment us. Get in touch. However you prefer.
