The Real Vuelta Results

As many of you know, Chris Froome won the bike race component of the 2017 Vuelta a España. But what about the other, less publicized but no less relevant, Vuelta-related competition, the one between Klaus and Daniel Wakefield Pasley about whether or not it’s okay to pee in a shower that you’re sharing with a colleague/associate/friend? The one that we put to a vote and for which vote voter turn-out was unprecedented—signaling to us (as if we didn’t already know) that the question (is peeing in a shared shower copacetic?) was timely, poignant and relevant to millions of professional road racing fans and enthusiasts around the world.

In case you forgot, here’s the original question we put to a vote:

“Is it OK to pee in the shower of a hotel bathroom, when you are sharing that room with another person?”

In case you’re wondering, yes, Klaus wrote the original polemic. And yes, it was Klaus who took offense to the very notion of peeing in a shared shower.

And in case you’re also wondering, yes, Daniel (the author of this Op-Ed piece) was the one who peed in the shower, thus setting this whole chain of events into motion.

I’ll be honest with you: democracy and popularism scare the shit out of me. After forty five years on Earth it’s abundantly (aggressively?) clear to me that people DO NOT KNOW what’s good for themselves. Maybe it’s because we’re self-destructive, or maybe it’s because we hate ourselves or think that we’re unworthy of justice and equality and kindness. Who knows? I know I don’t. But it is kinda cool when you’re on the side of the people. Which brings me to my point:

“Dear Klaus, it IS cool to pee in a shared shower.”
