The Andes dominate the landscape of ten Colombian departments: Antioquia, Boyacá, Caldas, Cundinamarca, Huila, Norte de Santander, Quindío, Risaralda, Santander and Tolima. Within those departments, the Andes are divided into three separate mountain ranges: Western, Central and Eastern.

Not surprisingly, the majority of Colombian cyclists who have been successful as professionals come from those departments whose landscape is most dramatically influenced by the Andes.
