Dylan Van Baarle is from the Netherlands and is currently 23 years old. And that’s about it, that’s about all we know. Except oh yeah, we’ve photographed him several times, he rides for Cannondale, and he’s good at bikes. Like, real good. But there has to be more to the story right? You bet there is. For example, he doesn’t have a sign yet but he needs one.11P.S.: If you feel inspired to make Dylan a sign, please follow your heart and do it. His fanmail address is in the Fun Facts section below, but don’t forget to cc @manualforspeed. See, this is exactly the type of personal information we’d hoped that a Cobble Goblin-themed Fan Club would reveal. Cobble Goblin-themed Fan Clubs work! Cobble Goblin-themed Fan Clubs work! EIGHT QUESTIONS WITH DYLAN VAN BAARLE
What is the earliest memory you have of the Tour of Flanders as a kid?
One of the first memories that pops up in my head is the attack of Sebastian Langeveld before the Bosberg. Also, Tom Boonen winning in his rainbow jersey—I can remember like it was yesterday.
Put a little piece of Cobble Goblin history on your wall!
Describe racing through the Forest of Arengberg in three words.
Fear, hard, when does it stop?
Describe the difference between French and Belgian cobbles.
The Belgian cobbles are little bit more smooth. Also in Belgium the cobbles are uphill most of the time. In France the cobbles are just really bad.
Favorite and least favorite part of the Tour of Flanders?
Favourite: Kwarenmont and Patersberg. Least favourite: the first 100 kilometers.
What’s your opinion about the Muur being left out of the Tour of Flanders?
I never rode it in Tour of Flanders, so I don’t know it from the race. But it’s a historical climb. I would love to see it back in “De Ronde” one day.
You share a birthday with the following celebrities: Mr. T, Notorious B.I.G., & Pete Sandoval (drummer of the death metal band Morbid Angel). Which of these do you think you are the most and the least like?
Most: Notorious B.I.G. Not our looks, but I like rap music. Least: Pete Sandoval, I don’t like metal music!
Dylan is the 58th most common male name in the Netherlands. Do you think through your success as a professional cyclist, you will help raise the profile of this name back home?
Haha, I don’t think so. Would be nice though! I’m not that famous at the moment.
Rate these Dylans: Bob Dylan, Jakob Dylan (Bob Dylan’s son, from the band The Wallflowers), Dylan McDermott (actor), Dylan Lee (son of Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee).
