These are all things you think about when you think about California.

The other thing they all have in common is that none of these places,There’s like a 7.4% chance that we’re wrong about one or two of these things, that maybe okay yeah the TdC will hit something on the above list this year. Listen, it’s not like we have a fully-staffed fact-checking desk and it’s late and we’re in a hotel in Sacramento.  people, or things are part of the Tour de California. We (Manual for Speed) used to get sad about this. We were like, Hey, WTF is wrong with the TdC? Why are they (the organizers) so eager for us to visit Lodi and Sacramento year after year after year while skipping over any of the millions of reasons to actually visit this state?

“I mean, if this was the Tour of Nebraska or some shit, Lodi and Sacramento might actually warrant a visit. But this isn’t the Tour of New Jersey this is the Tour de California and California is 1000% the best state in the World.”

It has every form of geography and topography, two of the best cities in America if not the World, it invented all the best sports like skateboarding and rollerblading, it IS movies and actors and smoothies, and it’s sunny and 75° ALL THE TIME. Point is we love California even if the Tour de California doesn’t.

With all this in mind, we asked Team Sky’s Tour de California roster to help us dial-in our Positive Mental Attitude (PMA) with a trip to Ocean Beach for some surfing. They were into it. We had a great. It was sunny and warm, and Castelli makes great wetsuits, so everyone was comfortable. We did hang fives and tens. Some of us got barreled. We took photographs together. We went to Gracias Madre in the city on the way back to Sac. It was exactly what we needed to prepare for Modesto, Pismo Beach, and Valencia.
