As expected, the Mortirolo climb (or as Eurosport’s Sean Kelly insisted on calling it, the “Motorola”) played a decisive role in the 16th stage of this year’s Giro. Contador punctured before the climb, but amazingly rode back to Aru, and then dropped him. Aru’s teammate Mikel Landa went on to win the stage, as the rest of world was left to wonder why an Italian mountain was named after a fledgeling multinational telecommunications company.
